Your petitioner conceiving no Injury can be done to the common
cause by permitting the above mentioned Children go to their
Parents, neither of whom exceed eight years of Age, humbly solicits
permission of your Excellency and Honours to send them under
the Care of a certain Mary Wilson, a native of Ireland, aged about
fifty years, who is desirous of returning to her native Land. Your
petitioner would willingly carry them to New York himself, but
his Circumstances are so circumscribed that he is not able to do
it at his own Expense, nor is he able to entertain them any longer
without distressing his own Family, he therefore hopes his Applica-
tion will have the desired Effect. And he as in Duty Bound will
pray &c.

[Henry Sheaff To His Excellency the Governor of Maryland
in Council]
The Memorial and Petition of Henry Sheaff of Baltimore Town,
humbly sheweth; That your Memorialist's Wife, now with him in
this State, hath an aged and infirm Parent, in the City of New York,
whose Anxiety once more, to see his only child and Grand Children
has been many Times expressed by Letters and verbal Messages, in
some of which, he has expressed a desire, personally to make a Dona-
tion of what Property he is in possession of to his Grand Children.
That your Memorialist's principal Dependance for a decent and
ample Provision for his Children, is on the Promises of his said
Wifes Father, to give them so much as will, with prudence and care-
ful Management put them in a Situation above the prospect of Want.
Your Petitioner therefore prays, that your Excellency, and the
Honorable the Council, will take his Case, and the situation of his
Children into consideration, and, if it is thought to be no detriment
to the Interest of the United States, or this State in particular, to
grant your Permit to Mary Sheaff and her two Young Children, to
go into New York, for the purpose of visiting her Parents, who are
declining very fast into Evening of Life, and to return again into
this State. If it is deemed necessary, any Security that may be re-
quired by your Excellency and Council, will be given, that no Injury
shall be done, through such Permission, to this, or the United States.
