Dear Sir I am Extremely in want of Eight Thousand Pounds
Continentl Money for a particular use in Annapolis, you will oblige
me very much to pay Mr Hammond that sum on ace' of the Blankets
sold the State last Spring the New Money will not suit the person
it is for tho I have taken it freely here, but it now begins to be hard
to Pass it as the Country People Refuse it on all occasions, Your
favouring me in this matter will much oblige

[Richd Dallam Harford County to Gov Lee]

Sir This day John Taylor Esqr member for this County made
me a Tender of upwards of two thousand pounds in discharge of
his Bonds Given the Commissioners for the building a Court House
&c in this County for money he had Collected in 1775 or 1776.
I could not agree to receive the money & give him the Bonds.
And as he has calld on the Commissioners to meet on the first
day of Decr for the Purpose of taking the depositions of the persons
Present at the Tender he has made I have thought it my duty to
inform your Excellency it being a Public Debt, that I may have
directions what we are to do in it. If Your Excellency does not
think Proper to give directions on the Subject Perhaps the Genl
Assembly now Sitting will take some order to prevent public debts
and Private from bein paid off with the Present money

[Robert Slater To his Excellency Thomas Sim Lee Esquire
Governor of Maryland, and the honorable Council]

The petition of Robert Slater humbly sheweth, That your Peti-
tioner has for a number of years been a Resident of Baltimore town
in the State of Maryland, that one of his Daughters about ten or
Eleven years ago intermarried with a certain William McCarter
of Newcastle County in the State of Delaware, where they resided
for a few years but the said William McCarter removed to the
Town of Baltimore aforesaid, and from there to the City of Phila-
delphia about five years ago, where he lived until some time after
the City was evacuated by the British Army, when he removed
to New York leaving his wife & Children, two Daughters Infants
behind him. Your petitioners Daughter with her Children, then
came to him at Baltimore town, where the Children have remained
ever since. The mother about two years ago went into New York
with Intent, if possible, to prevail on her Husband to come home,
but has not returned. McCarter & his wife are desirous that their
Children should be permited to come to them and for that purpose
wrote your petitioner a Letter by Col. Ramsey when he last left
New York
