of the Council of Maryland. 119

desire to serve Troops induces me warmly to recommend a compli-
ance as soon as Possible, Likewise a Supply of Tea, Coffee and Soap
or a Sum of Money to purchase those Articles here. Rum Sugar and
Tobacco may be got here on better terms then in Maryland the
other Articles bear nearly the same price.
A quantity of Blankets, Shirts and Shoes are much wanted for
our Soldiers. I have wrote for returns of the numbers, also for of
the Winter Clothing that will be wanted, and wish to know what
part of them I may expect from you, that I may in time apply to the
Clothier General for the deficiencies.

[Edm'd Plowden to His Excellency Thomas Sim Lee Esqr.]

Sir The sum of Tobacco I have received on loan for the use of
the State since your last amounts to twenty two thousand seven
hundred and eighty one pounds, a list of which I have inclosed to
the Treasurer by this conveyance. I was called upon some time past
by the purchasing Commissary of this County with and order from
you for all the money and Tobo in my hands, however I had not
any at that time, and If I am not otherways directed I shall con-
tinue to send all I receive to the Treasury, where I apprehend it is
most wanting.
