The extract you sent me of the subscription made by the gentle-
men of the Assembly from this County I believe is paid into the
hands of some of the other Commissioners.
It does not appear to me there will be any considerable quantity
of Tobo obtained. I shall use my best endeavours to get all I can

Sr This Covers an Invoice of the Taffia, Rum & Coffee Recd
from Messrs Ridley & Pringle wth the Captns Rect for what he carrys
to Annapolis to be delivered to whom your Excellency thinks proper
to order. Was obliged to detain three Hhds of the Rum because the
Vessel wou'd not hold it.
There's about a Thousand wt more of Coffee than what your
Excy order'd me to Receive but have taken in on Condition that your
Excelcy approves of it otherwise Mr Ridley is to take it again, as he
Assured me that you agreed to take Two Thousand

May It Please your Excelly Inclosed is an Invoice of the Cloth
&c sent by your order There is several pieces Brown Shalloon Re-
maining & Four or Five pieces Cloth which I shall send By the Next
oppertunity as the Vessel That I have put There on board of is Full.
I have Bot for the New Omission one BIe Sugar and 13 1/2 Bohea
Tea for Capt Boyer which is all I could Pass The People are not
Willing of Taking it. Mr William Smith has made Application to
me for a Return of the 200 Shirts I Borrowed from him

of the 22d Instant We should be extremely happy if it were in our
Power to give Satisfaction on the Subject of Cloathing for the
Maryland Troops; but are sorry to inform your Excellency that
the Stock of Cloathing belonging to the United States is so trifling
