I wrote your Excy some time ago pr Mr Chase for Comrs to fill
up the Vacancies in the Balt Town Batn to wch I have recd no answer.
The Batln consists of about fifteen Hundred men & for want of
Officers in the New formed Companies they are totally Inactive.
If your Excy means to Comsrs the Gentn recomd I could wish the
Comsns were sent as soon as convt If not your Excy may provide an
Officer as Lt Coll as I mean not to Act unless I have a prospect of
servg my Country wth reputation

[Wm. Webb Haddaway, Talbot County to Gov. Lee]

Sir Wee this Day ariv'd from our cruize Without the Dolphin
our Expedition has not been very successful as I Expected: had we
been Down about 3 or 4 Days sooner we might have Retaken a
number of prises Captured by the Enemy with their barges Who
Lay in the Sound. I Dispatch my brother Down a few Days before
we sail'd as a Spy to get all the inteligence he posable Could. Which
we took up as we went Down on their Return back We proseaded
Down as fast as posable wheare we fell in with the schooner sent up
by Capt Chambers whom we Convoie'd up to Sharps Isle, from
thence Stood to St. Jeromes wheare we took in a fresh Suply of
New hands: to prosead Down after some prises sent Down the
Day before, our intent was to get belowe them by the next Day on
thursday night about twelve oClock we fell in with three Saile who
ameacleatly movd Saile and stood for us our Consort being a Con-
siderable Distance to Lee and was obliged to heave about and
fier'd a gun to alarm them We stood up to Wiecomoco and brought
too tel the next morning then put out to Look for them. Which We
have never seen since we thought it most Expedient to Come up as
fast as posable: I find there is a Vast Number Disafected people on
both sides of the bay which Captn Peary Can Relate to you our
method to find them out Which I hope your Excelency and Council
will favor some way to brake them up they plunderd sevrl houses on
portomack a few Days ago. Sir I am Readey to Serve on aney
emergencey in persute of those Vilens

[J. Randall, Petersburgh to His Excellency Thomas S. Lee Esqr]

Sir The inability of this state to furnish the Waggons wanted,
and the pressing orders from General Smallwood to send to Camp
the Clothing and Stores I have on hand, Obliges me to repeat my
requisition of the 12th Instant for four or five Waggons to be fur-
nish'd from our State for that purpose, my duty as well as anxious
