A Bill, entituled, An Act to prevent the Sale of any of the parishes
within this province; was Read the ffirst time, and Ordered to lie on
the Table.
An Ingrossed Bill, entituled, An Act to Remedy some Defects in
an Indenture of Bargain and Sale from Michael Curtis, and Sarah
his wife, late of St. Mary's County Deceased, to Charles Carroll
Esqr late of the City of Annapolis Deceased; was Read and assented
to, and sent to the Upper House, with the paper Bill, by Mr Dulany
and Col. Hall.
An Address to his Excellency, was brought in, read, approved,
and Ordered to be Ingrossed.
On Motion, Leave given to bring in a Bill, to prevent the Crop-
ping and squeezing Tobacco, Ordered That the Committee of Laws
prepare a Bill accordingly.
The following Address, viz.
To his Excellency Samuel Ogle Esqr Governor of Maryland
The Humble Address of the House of Delegates of the said
province.
May it please your Excellency,
In Complyance with his Majesty's pleasure, expressed in his
Grace the Duke of Newcastle's Letter to Thomas Bladen Esqr late
Governor of this province, dated at Whitehall, April 9. 1746. This
House exerted themselves to the utmost ability of his Majesty's
Subjects, the people of Maryland, to encourage 300 able Bodied ffree-
men to inlist in his Majesty's Service, for the intended expedition to
Canada, and to transport them to the place of Rendezvous: In which
Letter the said Thomas Bladen Esqr was directed as follows; viz.
As to the Article of Arms and Cloathing for the men to be raised,
his Majesty has Commanded me to recommend it to you and the
other Governors, to take Care that the Soldiers may be provided
with them; and his Majesty has Authorized and impowered Lieu-
tenant General St Clair to make a reasonable allowance for defray-
ing that Expence. But as no Arms were to be purchased here for
that purpose, to prevent, as much as lay in our power, any Let to
that Expedition, the Quantity of 300 Muskets, with slings and
Bayonets, 300 Cartouch Boxes with Belts, 6 Drums 9 Half pikes,
and 6 Halberts, were by Consent of this House supplied out of the
Public Magazine of this province, on Condition of the like Quan-
tity being again replaced for the use of the public, the transacting
of which matter was referred to the said Thomas Bladen Esqr and
it was hoped by this House he would have taken suitable measures
in relation thereto: But as it is not known to this House that any-
thing hath been done therein, we pray that your Excellency will be
pleased to use such Instances as may procure the like Quantity of
Arms to be replaced in the public Magazine of this province, in lieu
