Acts. 209

effectually to all Intents and Purposes whatsoever, as if the same had
been made and done under the former Act; any Law to the contrary
notwithstanding.

Session Laws

An Act for laying out the Town a-new commonly called Princess
Anne Town, in Somerset County.

Chap. V
p. 4

Whereas, it is represented to this General Assembly, that the
Bounds of the said Town, and Lots therein, are so obscure, that the
same are scarcely known by the Owners or others; and that the
Right of Lots not taken up in the said Town are not to be come at,
from an Incapacity in the Proprietor or Proprietors to convey the
same; which greatly discourages the further Improvement and Set-
tlement of that Place, being convenient for Trade and Commerce.
Wherefore it is prayed, that an Act of this General Assembly may
pass, to lay out a-new the said Town, containing twenty-five Acres,
as near as may be to the original Bounds thereof, without Injury
to the Improvements therein already made.

Preamble

Be it therefore Enacted, by the Right Honourable the Lord Pro-
prietor, by and with the Advice and Consent of his Lordship's Gov-
ernor, and the Upper and Lower Houses of Assembly, and the
Authority of the same, That Col. Robert King, Col. George Gale,
Col. George Dashiel, Capt. Henry Ballard, Major John Elzy. Capt.
Samuel Wilson, and Capt. John Dennis, be, and are hereby appointed
Commissioners, and are, by Virtue of this Act, authorized and im-
powered to survey and lay out the same twenty-five Acres of Land
formerly laid out for a Town, under an Act of Assembly made at
a Session of Assembly begun and held at the City of Annapolis, the
thirteenth Day of March, Anno Domini Seventeen hundred thirty
and two, by the Name of Princess Anne Town, as agreeable as it
conveniently may be to the original Survey, without incommoding
the present Settlements thereon; always having a Regard to the
Ground already laid out for public Buildings, that the same be con-
tinued to that Use, and none other, for ever.

And be it further Enacted, That the said Commissioners, or the
major Part of them, be, and are hereby impowered and required at
any Time, by them, or the major Part of them, to be appointed,
before the first Day of May next ensuing this present Session of
Assembly, to meet at the said Town, and call and take to their Assis-
tance the Surveyor of Somerset County, or such other Person skillful
in Surveying, as the said Commissioners, or the major Part of them,
shall think fit to choose, and then and there proceed carefully to
re-survey the aforesaid twenty-five Acres of Land, and lay out the
same into as many convenient Lots, as were heretofore in the said
Town laid out, marked, and numbered One, Two, and so on to
Thirty; with the same Streets, Alleys, and Lanes, as formerly laid
out in the said Town, provided they do not incommode the present
