petition to this present Generall Assembly set forth that before the
making of An Act Entituled an Act for the Emitting and making
Current ninety thousand pounds Current money of Maryland in
Bills of Credit they have Contracted for the building of a Church
in the said Parish for the Sum of ninety Thousand pounds of Tob^o
which is Less by twenty thousand pounds of Tobacco than they have
yet raised or without a Law to Enable them can raise in Tobacco and
have therefore Prayed that an Act may pass to Empower them to
raise and Levey the said Twenty thousand pounds of Tob^o on the
Taxable Inhabitants of the said Parish. Be it therefore Enacted
by the Right Honourable the Lord Prop^ry by and with the Advice
and Consent of his Lordships Governour and the Upper and Lower
Houses of Assembly and the Authority of the same that the Justices

of Charles: County Court shall and may and they arc hereby Author-

ized and Directed on the Application of the Vestrymen and Church
Wardens of the Parish af^d to assess and Levey on the Taxable
Inhabitants of the said Parish at the Laying the next Levey for their
said County the aforesaid Quantity of twenty thousand pounds
of Tob^o to finish and Compleat the Church in the said Parish Al-
ready begun to be built which said Tobacco so to be Levied shall be
Collected by the Sheriff of Charles County for the time being who
is hereby Authorized and directed to Collect the same who shall have
for such Collection at and after the rate of five per Cent and the said
Tobacco when so Collected shall be paid to the Vestrymen and
Church Wardens aforesaid who are hereby Authorized and required
to Apply the same to the finishing and Compleating the Church
aforesaid

An Act for the further Assessment of so much Money on the Taxable
Inhabitants of King & Queen Parish in Saint Marys and Charles
Countys as will build a new Church in that part of the Parish
which Lyes in Saint Marys County for the Repairing of Newport
Church in the same Parish and to Appoint a time for the Free-
holders to meet in Order to Choose a place to build the said
Church upon.

Whereas the Rector Vestrymen and Church Wardens of the
Parish aforesaid have by their Petition to this General Assembly sett
forth that the five hundred pounds which they were the Last Session
of Assembly by an Act of Assembly Entituled An Act Empowering

the Rector Vestrymen and Church Wardens of King and Queen
Parish in Saint Marys and Charles Countys to purchase Two Acres
of Land in the said Parish in Saint Marys County to build a Church
on and for raising a fund as well to Compleat the said Purchase and
Building as to repair Newport Church in Charles County within the
said Parish Enabled to raise for the Purposes therein mentioned is
not Sufficient for the building and repairs in the said Act specifyed
