, and that the Day appointed in pursuance of the said Act for the
Parishioners to meet for Appointing where the said New Church
should stand proved so rainy and bad that very many of the Parish-
ioners could not meet so that it is necessary another Opportunity
should be given them to Vote and Determine where the said new
Church shall be built and also that they are Apprehensive they may
need to purchase two Acres of Land for Erecting the said Church
and railing in a Church yard and have therefore prayed that an Act
may pass for a farther Assessment of a Sum of money to defray the
Expences of the Buildings and Purchase aforesaid and for the Ap-
pointing a time for the Chusing where the said New Church shall
stand Be it Enacted by the Right Honourable the Lord Propry by
and with the Advice & Consent of his Lordships Governour and the
Upper & Lower Houses of Assembly and the Authority of the same
That the Justices of Saint Marys and Charles County Courts shall
& may and they are hereby Authorized & Empowered on the Appli-
cation of the Vestry and Church Wardens of the said Parish to
Assess and Levey on the taxable Inhabitants of the said Parish the
sum of Six hundred Pounds Current money besides the Sum al-
ready Enacted to be raised Provided the Quantity of Money to be
raised in any one year do not exceed the Sum of five Shillings Cur-
rent money for each taxable Person in the said Parish which said
money so to be Leveyed shall be Collected by the Sheriffs of Saint
Maries and Charles Countys for the time being who are hereby
Authorized and directed to Collect the same and who shall have
for such Collection at and after the rate of five pounds per Cent and
the said money so Collected shall be paid yearly to the Vestrymen
and Church Wardens who are hereby Authorized and required to
apply the same to the purchasing of two acres of Land and building
a new Church and repairing New Port Church as aforesaid And
Whereas it may so happen that the Person or Persons interested in
the two acres of Land aforesaid may willfully refuse to make Sale
thereof or the Person or Persons interested therein through nonage
or Coverture or Non Sane Memoria or other impediment or disa-
bility may be unable to do the same Be it therefore further Enacted
by the Authority aforesaid That the Vestrymen and Church War-
dens aforesaid or the Major part of them are hereby Authorized by
virtue of this Act to Issue out a Warrant Directed to the Sheriffe
of Saint Maries County for the time being to Impower him to im-
pannell & return a Jury of Freeholders to Appear before the said
Vestry men and Church Wardens which Jury upon their Oath to
be administred by the said Sheriff are to Enquire and Assess such
Damages and recompence as they shall think fit to be awarded to the
Owners and all persons Interested according to their severall and
