this Province who are made Subject to fines and penaltys imme-
diately from the breaking up of this Session of Assembly We
therefore propose that the Bill in that part may be altered & made
not to be in force till the 29th Septemr aforesaid

the Time for Shipping passed and Sent to the Lower House by
Michael Howard Esqr
Read the second time the Bill Entituled an Act to confirm a Deed
of Mortgage already recorded from a certain Thos Howel of Kent

County to Edward Beck of the said County Attorney in fact for a
certain Casper Hoodt and passed, the Words, to his most sacred
Majesty his Heirs and Successours being left out
Sent to the House by Col Ward.
Read the second time the Bill entituled an Act to enable Vachel
Denton late Clerk of the Provincial Court to record & enter up the
Proceedings of that Court which were omitted to be done during his
Continuance in the said Office and to require & direct the Justices
of the Several respective County Courts within this Province to lay
a State of the order & Condition the Records and Proceedings of the
said Courts are in before the next General Assembly, and will not
pass sent to the Lower House with the following Message, by Ben-
jamin Tasker Esqr

By the Upper House of Assembly 22d April 1735
Gentlemen
Mr Vachel Denton late Clerk of the Provincial Court having for
many years neglected in Violation of the Trust reposed in him the
Duty of his Office in not Entering the Judgements of the Court in
great number of Civil and Criminal Causes to the apparent Detri-
ment of the Persons concerned therein. And his Excellency in
Council by their Advice having ordered the Attorny General to
prepare and Exhibit an Information against the said Denton for his
said Offence, This House hath thought proper to reject the Bill
enabling him to record and Enter up the Proceedings of the Court
thinking it unsafe that He should have access to them Who has in
so gross a Manner neglected his Duty therein contrary to his Oath
and the Trust reposed in him, And recommend to your House the
bringing in a Bill to Enable the Secretary of this province for the
Time being to Supply the said Denton's Omissions & to compel him
to pav the Expence & Charge thereof.
