An Engrossed Bill from the Lower House by M^rs Hemsley and
Nedels entituled a Supplementary Act to an Act entituled an Act
laying an Imposition on Negros and Several Sorts of Liquor im-
ported and also on Irish Servants to prevent the importing too great
a number of Irish Papists into this Province thus Subscribed

Read the second Time the Bill entituled an Act ascertaining the
Tare & Gauge of Tob^o hhds & to prevent croping cutting & defacing
Tob^o taken on Board Ships or Vessels upon Freight and to direct
what allowance shall be made for the Cask and with the following
Amendm^ts will pass after the Word allowed in 10^th Line of 7^th Page
insert the following Clause And be it further Enacted by the Author-
ity Advice & Consent afs^d that if any Master of a Ship or other
Sea Vessel within this Province or any other Person after the
twenty ninth day of Sep^r af^d shall receive take or put on board such
Ship or Sea Vessel any hhd or hhds of Tob^o exceeding the Gauge
and Dimensions af^d limited by this Act every such Master of a
Ship or other Sea Vessel shall incurr the forfeiture & Penalty of six

p^ds Curr^t mony for every hh^d of tob^o which shall be received taken
or put on board by the s^d Master or any other Person; one Moiety of
said Penalty to the Lord Proprietary the other half to the Informer
or him or them who will sue for the Same to be recovered by
Action of Debt Bill Plaint or Information wherein no Essoyn, Pro-
tection, or Wager of Law shall be allowed; in 4^th Line of Last Side
after the word of to the end of 8^th Line to be left out, and the
following Words inserted six pounds of Tob^o or Eight pence Current
mony for every hund^d p^ds of Tob^o contained therein at the Choice oi
the Receiver
