Signed p Order Geo. Plater Cl Up Ho.
The following message is prepared and sent to the Lower House
by Benj. Tasker Esqr viz.
By the Upper House of Assembly October the 24th 1728
Gentlemen
We are treated in such a manner in your Message of the 22d
Inst, by Mr Beale and Mr Key relating to the publick Allowance
that we think our selves Obliged to take notice of it and to put you
in mind that the reflecting ridiculing Expressions and misconstruc-
tions therein contained are not agreable to that modesty and wis-
dom which ought to rule in parliamentary proceedings.
We will not treat you with Language of the same kind altho
several parts of your message afford sufficient occasion so to do
but content ourselves with Asserting our right to an allowance
as a Council of State according to the Settlemt made Anno 1694
and since continually allowed for about 30 years until of late denied
by your House without any just occasion as we conceive for so
doing being thus deprived of what is due to us (notwithstanding
your charge of being very tenacious of our Interest) we think we
bear a greater abatement of our allowances than you proposed in
yours.
Signed p Order Geo Plater Cl. Up Ho.
