and sent to the Lower house by Colo Richard Tilghman
Col Holland and nine others of the Govrs & Visitors of the
Free Schools sent down to the Lower house with the foll0
Address Viz.

To the Honble The Grall Assembly now sitting, The Address
and representation of the Rectr Governours & Visitors of the
Free schools of Maryland

We the Rectors Govrs & Visitors afd having upon sundry
meetings & Consultations had for the Propagation of the said
Schools observed that the funds for Support thereof raised

on the Exportation of beef Pork & Furs amount to a very
small Income scarce Twenty pounds p Annum so that the
present School at Annapolis can hardly subsist but as it is
supported by the Subscriptions of Sundry Charitable psons
Who have subscribed thereto And that there is not any prob-
ability much longer to Continue even that upon the Estab-
lishmt it is now upon much less to Establish other schools And
for that We are Equally Concerned that all the other Counties
in this Province shoud be Destitute of so necessary and bene-
ficiall Establishing of a School in each of them for the Instruct-
ing their youth in good literature & manners.
Presumeing upon the pious & good Inclinations of this
present Genll Assembly, We do hereby address you that you
woud be pleased in favour to the youth of this Province whose
Unhappiness in the want of schools is much rather to be
Lamented than their Application & Improvement doubted off
had they the means provided to Assist their Studies for the
better propagating & supporting the said Schools to give leave
that a bill might be brought in this Present Session Declaring
that whereas many psons not being anywise of Kin or other-
wise legally representing sundry Intestates often by prtence of
small Claims due from such Estates gain the Admrns thereof
& Convert the whole farr more than will satisfy their just
Claims or demands to their proper uses without being any-
wise accountable therefore that such Admrs may be Obliged to
Account for the Residue of such Intestates' Estates and pay

the ballances thereof to the Rectors Governours & Visitors
of the Free schools for the Use & propagation thereof Which
we Conceive may be an Additionall support to the said Schools
And no ways prejudiciall to any body
Further we begg your kind Assistance that there may be a
Clause added to the said Bill That fforasmuch as there is a
ballance of an Account due to the Schools from the Estate of
Col Thomas Smithson late Publick Trear of the Eastern Shoar
