The House meet according to Adjournment
Present as yesterday

Mr Joseph Hill and three others with the follo Bills, viz.
A Bill to Prevent the Cutting off Entails within this
Province.
A Bill Reviving the Act for Regulating the Militia
A Supplementary Bill to the Act abt Jurors
All Passed by the Lower House.
The bill for Reviving the Act for Regulating the Militia,
And the Supplementary bill to the Act about Jurors being
Read will Pass And so Endorsed, And sent down by Mr Lowe
who Returns & says he Delivered it.
The Supplementary Bill to the Act abt Constables &c being
Read the following Message is prepared Viz.

By the uper house of Assembly

May 29th 1719
Gent.
On Reading the Supplementary Bill to the Act for appoint-

ment of Constables &c. This house proposes the following
Amendments Viz.
And the better to Enable the Sherriffs of the severall Coun-
ties to Return Copys of the lists of Taxables in Each County
as afd the Severall Constables of the Several and Respective
hundreds in the Several Counties are hereby required to send
a Copy of their lists of Taxables to the Sheriffe of their
County at or before the first day of August after the takeing
of such list.
And whereas It is found by Experience That there are
many single Persons who are Freemen within this Province
who have not any Setled place of Residence but make their
Abode at such places where they are Employed, And such
Imployers Refuse to give them in as taxables they not being
Constant Residents in their Fa'milys by which means they
Frequently Escape paying any Tax at all,
Be It Enacted by the Authority Advice and Consent afd
That it shall and may be lawfull for any Constable of any
hundred in any of the Counties within this Province upon
finding any such Single Person or Freeman in their Respective
hundreds who Cannot procure some housekeeper within such
hundred to give him in as a Taxable nor make appear that he

is a Resident or taken as a Taxable in some other hundred or
County to Carry such Person or Freeman before the next
Justice of the Peace for such County who is hereby Impowered
