to do, I am Obliged in this manner to signify to you, That it
is their Lordships Pleasure & Request A bill may be brought
in to Qualify Mr Humphrys ( a particular friend to their
Lordships) to hold any Office or Imploymt notwithstanding he
has not Resided in this Province three years.
Now the same favour having been shewn the late Mr Steel,
I hope this will not meet with any Difficultys neither from the
uper nor lower houses.
I herewith send you the Letter my Lord Guilford has
honoured me with in favour of Mr Humphrys, wherein his
Lordship is pleased to Express himself in a manner so much
to his Advantage that I Doubt not It will be very Prevailing
with both houses for the Ready Passing the bill Desired

My Lord Guilfords Letter to his Excellency

Sr Although Mr Lowe has writ to you a great deal of my
mind Concerning Mr Humphrys Yet I won't omitt this oppor-
tunity to Recommend him my self, he is a Gentl for whom I
have a great Kindness, nay I may say Friendship, And the
better to shew it I have given him my Advice to pay you all

the Respect that is due to One upon whose Favour he is In-
tirely to Depend. I have Directed him particularly not only to
Avoid the measures but even the Conversation of those who
Oppose you, And don't at all Doubt but that a man of so good
an Understanding as he is master of will Pursue his True
Interest, which is to please you and me at the same time. I
have been very much Importuned to Recomend Mr George
Read to you, who is Comeing to Maryland, which I do not for
any particular thing, but as his future behaviour shall be.
