The House meet according to Adjournment
Present as in the morning

Capt. Daniel Mariartee and five others bring from the
Lower House a Bill to Repeal a Certain Act of Assembly
Entituled an Act to Prevent the Growth of Popery within this
Province, Passed by that House.
On Reading whereof in this House His Excellency is
pleased to lay before this Board One of his Ldps Instructions
to him Viz

Article 57th. You are to Permitt a Liberty of Conscience to

all Persons (Except Papists) so they be Contented with a
Peaceable & Quiet Enjoyment of the same not Giving Offence
or Scandall to the Government.
Whereupon the said Bill is Endorsed,
Twice Read in this House and Passed with this Amendmt
Viz. (Chapter the fourth) and sent to the Lower House by
Colo Holland Col Young & Phil Lloyd Esqr Who Return &
say they Delivered it.
Mr Nathaniel Dare & five others bring from the Lower
House the following Message Viz.

By the Lower House of Assembly.
Aprill 30th 1718

May It Please Your Honrs
In Answer to your message of yesterday by Colo Holland
Col Ennalls Col Addison and Esqr Hall with his Excellencys
Speech to the Reverend Clergy And their Address to him We
gratefully Acknowledge the Zeal his Excellency has always
Exprest for the benefitt & Advantage of the Church Estab-
lished by Law Amongst us And begg leave to Assure his

Excellency & Your Honours, that whensoever the Reverend
Clergy shall be pleased to lay before us their Representation
for the farther Advancement of that holy Religion We pro-
fess, We shall Proceed to do therein what may be Reasonably
Expected from True members of that Church with a Just
Regard had to the Constitution of the Country we Represent.

Mr Joseph Hill & Mr James Frisby from the Lower house
Present Mr John Beale a Member Chosen for the City of
