Read in Council & will pass with the following Amend-
ments instead of above one hundred pounds Sterl or 30000
of Tobo it be expressed 20 lb Sterl or 5000l tobo but above
200 tobo or sixteen shillings & Eight pence Currency And
adding the Words and give Judgmt for the just Ballance with
Costs of Suit And then sent to the Delegates by the Honble
Col Lloyd Col Holland Col Coursey Lt Col Young & Col
Whittington.
The Bill for Limitation of Officers Fees read at the Board.
And being debated Tis thought if this Bill should pass & the
Officers Fees be reduced as thereby is proposed It will not
only discourage men of good Learning Integrity and parts to
accept of some of the inferiour Offices therein mentioned but
also lessen and debase the State & Dignity of the superiour
officers who in their several Stations are most useful in this
Province either in the Administring of Justice or Execution
thereof And ought to be handsomely supported according to
their Several Characters not only for the sake of their own
meritt and Capacity but the Honour of the Government itself
whereof they are the immediate ministers

Therefore this Board cannot agree to the Bill but desire the
former Law may be revived with the explanatary Act thereto,
His Excellency the Governour and this Board inclining not
only to Support and Encourage such Officers as diligently and
faithfully discharge their Dutys but likewise to suppress &
punish those that are any ways guilty of Bribery, Extortion,

Negligence or any other unfaithful Misdeameanours in the
Execution of the Several Offices & Trusts reposed in them
according to the utmost severity of the Law
Which being prepared by way of Message was sent to the
House by Col Coursey Col Whittington & Capt Dorsey
The Board adjourned till Nine of the Clock to morrow
morning

Thursday July the first 1714

The Honble her Majesty's Council in Assembly Sate
Present as yesterday
Col Macall and seven more bring up the Bill for reviving
and continuing the Act for ordering & regulating the militia
Endorsed
Read the first & second Times by especial order and will .
pass
Which being read at this Board resolved It do pass and
being so Endorsed was sent to the House by Col Addison
and Col Tilghman
