. matter to the Governeur of Virginia and desires the Answer
to this petition may be referred till he hears from that Gov-
ernment
The Right Honourable the Lord Proprietary's Interest being
concerned in this Petition Mr Charles Carrol his Lordship's
Agent had notice to offer what he had to say in this matter
who informed his Excellency and the Board that while the
Lord Proprietor had the Government in his Hands, Ships that
came from Virginia with Tobo there Laden on board them

did not use to pay any Dutys here for those Tobaccos, but
having heard the Virginians have obliged Ships who have
taken part of their loading in this Province to pay Dutys for
that Tobacco again in Virginia tho he cannot instance the

particular Cases, he knows not how this Government can pre-
vent their so doing; unless by using the Laws of Retaliation ;
But as the Governmt are equally concerned in this matter as
well as his Lordship shall be willing to abide by what the
Governmt shall do therein
His Excellency is pleased to say if that Governmt does
wrong, It is no rule for this to walk by

The Council adjourned till nine of the Clock to morrow
morning

Act for relieving of the Inhabitants of this Province from
some Aggrievances in the prosecution of Suits at Law read
