By the Council in Assembly
Novr 12th 1713

Upon reading this Bill and hearing Mr Richard Bennett's
Objections thereto it appearing Mr Bennett is a valuable
Purchaser under & according to the Laws of this Province
and that at the Time of the Mortgage made him he could not
have any due Knowledge of the said Lease to Mason it not
being inrolled the Bill is thought unreasonable and that the
said Mason ought to seek his Remedy of the Heirs of Robert
Smith Esq wherefore we reject the Bill

Whittington from the Council deliver Mr Speaker the fol-
lowing Message

Novr 12th 1713

We have taken all possible Care to cultivate a good and
amicable Correspondence with your House this Session and
cannot but think you use us very ill in denying a Conferrence
which we take to be the only Expedient to remove the Diffi-
culties seeming to have created a Misunderstanding between
us and to dispatch Business. We do not pretend to direct
whether you should address her Majesty in Answer to Sir
Thomas Lawrence's Complaint nor would such Conferrence
with us prevent your so doing tho' you should be happily
convinced that it's your Interest to give a ready and chearful
Obedience to her Majesty's Commands which we have so
earnestly recommended to you and prest you to comply with
wherefore if her most Sacred Majesty should conceive any
