236 Assembly Proceedings, Oct. 27-Nov. 14, 1713.

U. H. J.

Tuesday November the loth 1713

The Council Sate Present as yesterday

The message from the Delegates by Mr Garrett & Others
last night being considered and debated Resolved the following
answer be sent thereto Viz.

By the President & Council in Assembly
November the 10th 1713

Gentlemen
Notwithstanding the many Reflections you have this Session
so liberally bestowed upon this Board and the ill usage you
treated us with which is too obvious in several of your mes-
sages & particularly in that you sent us yesterday by Mr
Garrett & seven Others Which all the World will allow are
no ways parliamentary, We make no doubt we should in the
Support of our own Character & out of a generous Regard
to the Reputation of your House as well as the true Interest
of the Province (had you agreed to give us a Conference on

p. 850

the Subject Matter of enforcing her Majesty's Commands
relating to the Fines of Ordinary Licences) have easily con-
vinced you that the Address you propose to her Majesty and
Sent up to us for our perusal has very little or no weight in it
And that you have therein through mistakes Averred that
which is utterly untrue, and particularly in that part thereof,
wherein we apprehend you fix the Basis of your refusal to
comply with her Majesty's royal Command. We could do no
less than represent this to you And let the Consequences of
this Affair be never so destructive to the Interest of this poor
Province It will lye at your door if you refuse the Warning
given you and We shall clearly be acquitted thereform. We
know not of any thing we have to offer but what We think
very material And shall be as careful as any of your House
how we increase the Countrys Charge by any Delays which
you cannot charge us with unless you believe the Enforcing
her Majesty's Commands is so wherein It does not become
your House to direct us
When the Journalls of this Session are perused by the Right
Honourable the Lords of Trade and plantations if any Delays
have happened They may Satisfie such impartial Judges where
they have been

Signed p order W Bladen Cl Coun.

Sent to the House by Col Holland Col Greenfield Mr Hall
& Col Tilghman
