spreading false news & rumours and fomenting Jealousies
between them and her Majesty's Subjects of this Province We
concur with your House and have agreed to the amendments
of the first part thereof
And as to the second part of the said Bill We had reason to
believe the Gentlemen members of your House representing
Dorchester & Somersett Countys had not been wanting to
inform you what had lately happened in their Countys relating
to the Nanticoke Indians and what wicked and pernicious
(tho groundless) Storys were raised upon that occasion by ill
designed Persons to create a misunderstanding between us
and the Indians
Wherefore seeing the false rumours and reports designed
to be punished are solely circumscribed to those tending to
create Differences between the Indians and us we cannot ap-
prehend any evil Consequences but good Effects therefrom
If you think the penalty too great for the Offence you may
apportion it suitable to the offence As to the Clause you pro-
pose to inhibit her Majesty's Subjects from trusting the Indians
or taking any pawn from them We readily agree to it
Signed William Bladen Cl Coun.
The afd Message sent to the House with the Bill therein
