By the Councill in Assembly April 8th 1706

His Exncy thinks fitt to acquaint You of the late Alarm We
had of one thousand Senequirs Comeing from the Northward

p. 24

with Intent to cut off & carry away our Easterne Shore In-
dians, And therefore you have the Papers herewith sent you
relating thereto for your perusall.

Came Lt Col: Holland & was added to the Boarde
Capt George Harris having been required Severall tymes
by his Exncy the Govr & Councill to come to this Towne &
peruse Several french Letters lately taken in the Prize La
Francois of Rochell this day appeared at the Boarde and
brought two of the said Letters translated into English One
from Monsieur D'Auger the French Governt giving an Accot
of a new Fort at Martinico Called St Lewis's Forte expected
to be finished towards the latter end of Febry last : the other
from Monsr D'Patys to Monsr D'Casse.
His Exncy is pleased to take notice of the said Capt Harris's
readiness & Diligence in this Matter and asks the Boarde
what will be fitt to give the said Capt Harris in gratification
of his Service & Trouble.
Advised that he be pay'd the Sume of three pounds Sterl
therefore.
The following Message sent to the house by Mr Sanders.

Apll the 8th 1706

Gentn Att present the Conveyance of Publiq Letters is
very unsafe as well as tedious, and thereby her Matys Service
as well as your proper Interests much impaired. It's wished
You would Seriously consider how this may he remedyed.
His Exncy the Governt of Virginia having Comunicated his
Resolution of using his Endeavours with the Assembly of that
Colonye intended to Sitt this month to redress the Evil there

Mr Peter Watts and Mr Francis Dollahyde bring from the
House the foll Message

By the House of Delegates. Apll 8th 1706.
