6d p Hhd on Tobacco towards defraying the Charge of building
the Stadt House. Indorsed December the 9th 1704. By the
House of Delegates. Read the first & second Times & by
especial Order do pass. W Taylard Cl. Ho. Del.
Ordered That Colo Smallwood, Colo Maxfield, Mr Tyler,Mr
Mackall, Mr Beale, Mr Blay, Mr Wells, Mr Hill, Mr Hudson &
Mr Macclaster carry up the Bill to the Council for their Con-
currence. They return and say they delivered the Bill.
The Petition of William Morington praying a Discharge
of some Goods seized and unjustly detained &'" Indorsed as
follows.

December 9th 1704.
This Petn being read Ordered That the Naval Officer at
Williamstadt discharge the Seizure to which we desire the
Concurrence of the House.

Upon reading the said Petition & Order thereupon this
House concurred thereof to discharge the Seizure the Petitioner
allowing the Naval Officer 40s for his Pains & Trouble. Which
was likewise indorsed & delivered to the Petr
The House taking under Consideration these Persons that
were industrious endeavouring to preserve the publick Records
from the Fire of the Stadt House. Do order That Mr Edward
Hancox, Mr Richard Dallam, George Hix & three Sailors be
each of them allowed twenty Shillings Sterling as a Present to
buy them Rings. And that the Sailors Money be lodged for
them in the Hands of Mr Elias King. Allowed to John Beale,
Clerk the sum of five Pounds Sterling for his Service and in
Recompence of his Loss in using his Endeavours to preserve
the publick Records &ta
Thomas Tench Esqr enters the House and delivers the Bill
for the Duty of 6d p Hhd. on Tobo &ta wth Indorst Wch being
read the Bill is rejected. And also the following ingrossed
Bills brought in Viz.
