Stood up Colonel James on Behalf of his nation of Indians Lib. X. & says there is a woman that is Queen of pamunkey & Queen of them all she has a good heart & presents her duty to his Excellency & desires to Live in Love & Friendship with the English & has sent him a Present And thereupon presents his hand to the Govr on Behalf of the Queen which his Excellency received & afterwards return ed in like manner Assuring them of all Truth & Justice & that P. 232 his Masr Employed none but such as were so Collo James presents his Excellency six Beaver skins Collo James says the young men would be all of one heart with the English provided they were not disturb'd in their hunting To which his Excellency Answers that upon their true and good Behaviour he will take care to have such persons as affront or abuse them punished allone as for abusing any of his Majstys Subjects Collo James present Six Beaver Skins more which he says are by the Queen his Mistress to his Excellency to bestow on his Servants & hopes before they go away they will shake hands heartily & then set down as not having further to say His Excellency tells them he takes well their present & will return them another Then his Excellency bad the Interpreter to tell the Emperor of Piscattoway that in as much as he has been in this Province a considerable time he should have been glad to have seen him before now however he is wellcome Bidds him ask the Emperor if he or his Indians were under any fear or diffidence or if any one gave them ill impressions of any ill usage they might expect from him to which the Em peror says no not any Body And says that he would have come before now when his Excellency sent for him but that the In dians that his Excellency spoke to, to bid him come in deceived him & came not too him but went to Nanjotticot but that he p. 234 was now come in His Excellency gives them to understand that we have not any design of advantage from them but that the King his Master desires they may be kindly Used & that it is most for their Advantage to Live quietly & easy among us Tells them that several Murthers have been committed of Late & divers persons injured that we do not certainly know who it was that has done it but hope it was not them they absolutely deny they are Guilty of any such thing His Excellency observes to them how they have Shuffled & put of & on & Broke their Articles so that it was but Reason able to suspect them tells them he expects they should be very punctual to what is now said & promised or otherwise he will
