80 Proceedings of the Council of Maryland, 1699.
Lib. X. His Excellency informs the Board that he had upon the Representation of the Iustices of the Provl Court suspended the execution of the Corporal Punishments & Fine upon Mr John Cood inflicted by that Court upon consideration of his service done on the Revolution & that for six months only in hopes of finding a Reformation in him Whereupon this Board do unanimously agree that the said Cood was very serviceable to his most Sacred Majesty & this Province upon the said Revolution & do approve of what his Excellency has done therein And further advise that in case his Excellency has a good account of his Wellbehaviour he may be then pardoned Collo Henry Ridgely being very Antient & desirous to lay down his Commission of Colonel of this County of Ann Arundel County Ordered Commission be prepared to appoint the honble Major Iohn Hammond Colonel of the said County Read the right honble Mr Secry Vernons Letter to his Ex- cellency relating to the Pirate Turner now in Custody within this Province requiring his Excellency to send the said Turner for England Then was also read a certain instrument under the said Turners hand obliging himself to become an Approver against the rest of his fellow Pirates p. 226 Then was read the Right honble Mr Secry Vernons Letter about illegal Trade to which this Board do say that all dili gent Care is taken within this Government to detect them Read also his most Sacred Majestys Letter in relation to the Scotch at Darien Whereupon a Proclamation was ordered to be prepared & issued prohibiting all & every his Majstys good Subjects within this Province from supplying them with any Ammunition provisions of victuals or Otherwise whatsoever trading with or holding any Comerce or Correspondency with the said Scotch at Darien Then did the honble Thomas Tench Esqr Collo Iohn Addi son Tho Brooke Esqr & Collo Iohn Hammond pursuant to the order or Warrant from the Lords of the Admiralty dated the 7th of Iune 1699 Administer unto his Excellency the Gov- ernor the oaths appointed by Act of Parliament to be taken instead of the oaths of Allegiance & Supremacy who in their Presence subscribed the Test & Association after wch they did deliver his Excellency his Commission of Vice Admiralty of this his Majestys Province &Ca It being moved at the Board concerning some Discourse used by Capt Richard Hill wherein he had expressed himself Disaffected to his Majestys Government here the debate & Examination thereof is further referred to a full Council
