    present Grievance complained of in those parts is an Indul-     Lib. H. D.

    gence to Pyrates and a Neglect of the Acts of Navigation and

    Trade, You have had an Oportunity to shew what you will do

    us to the former, and I do not doubt but the Same Integrity

    will Appear in all the parts of your Trust, I have great Con-

    fidence likewise that Mr Pen gives over with a Resolution to

    wipe off the Imputation that propriety Governnors ly under as

    if they Pursued private Interest distinct from those of the

    Nation while you have both the Same publick Ends in View        p. 281

    You will go on in concert towards the Attaining them, and I

    wish you Success & reputation in all your Endeavours, I am

    Ann Arundell County the 4th day of October 1699 & in the        p. 224

    Eleventh year of the Reign Of our Soveign Lord William the

    3d by the Grace of God of England Scotld France & Ireland

    King Defender of the Faith &Ca

                 Collo Iohn Addison     

     the honble  Thomas Brooke Esqr      of his Majtys Council

                 Col John Hammond

  

     His Excellency acquaints the Gentlemen prest that the oc-

    casion of his now calling them together was to advise & con-

    sider what Party of Rangers would be sufficient to be kept out

    Ranging this winter Season for Security of the Frontires &

    whereas the said Rangers were a great charge to the Country

    whether a lesser Number then at present kept out might not

    Suffice provided a Sufficient Number were sent out early in

    the spring

     Colonel Ninian Beal being called in gives an Account of two

    hundred Seneca Indians that had lately passed over Susque

    hannah

     Advised that whereas the Indians are such Suddain & un-

    certain Enemys that the same number of men be kept out vizt

    two Officers with eight men & that due care be taken to have

    the said Rangers paid what is due in Arrears to them

     Whereupon it is likewise further ordered that a former

    order of this Board to the honble Collo Iohn Addison & Mr       p. 225

    William Tanyhill be by them Observed to see the Mens Ac-

    counts made up & their Quarters paid off
