he will be pleased to take such speedy Care thereupon as in Lib. X. his discretion he shall think fitt His Excellency is pleased to acquaint the Board that the other day he spied a Sloop in the Offing of Severn River which upon some intimation the day before he had received from Collo Quary he Suspected to have on Board some of those Pirates lately arrived at Cape Henlophen & that there upon he had ordered Mr William Bladen to go on Board her p. 223 & if he found any such to secure them that the said Bladen had been on Board & brought before him one Theophilus Turner with what treasure the said Pirate had on Board which he had Secured until his Majestys Pleasure should be known therein & designed to give an Account thereof to the right honble his Majestys Secry of State That he had also secured Andrew Gravenreot owner of the said Sloop who being called in gave the follo Account that about four days ago about 4 Leagues of of Delewayer Cape he met with a ship called the Nassaw which stood after him but that he wrong'd her whereupon she fired a Gun & spread her antient & sent her Boat on Board him which he haled at a distance & asked what Ship it was & was answered from the Boat the Winchester of London Capt Stoat Commander but when they had carried him on board the Ship he found it was Captain Shelley in the Nassaw from Madagascar who obliged him to take on Board the said Turner & two other men with their chests who went on Board of two Ships at the capes mouth bound for England the act of Assembly for punishing Pirates being read the Board do well approve what his Excellency has done herein & it is Ordered that the Pirate Turner be safely secured but that Mr Gravenraet on good Security may be at Liberty Whitehall 21st July 1699 Lib. I have very lately recd your Lres of the 22th of May and 8th of June which Came together I have laid them before the Lords Iustices with the Depositions of Theophilus Turner, have Comanded me to Acknowledge your Care in the Apprehend ing that Pyrate whom they would have you Send home in Custody by the first good Opportunity, And Since he has Shewed an Ingenuity in his Confession and this is the earliest of that kind their Excys think him a fitt Object of his Matys Mercy provided he be as ready to give Evidence agt any he knows have been concerned in Pyracys when they shall be taken and brought to Tryall I believe their Excellencys will likewise give directions for the Sending hither Such Pyrates
