[Depositions of Hemsley and Taylor] The Deposition of Charles Hemsley of Talbott Coty aged 31 years or thereabouts This Depont saith That Capt Peter Oldson Commandr of the Ship Richard & Sarah of London having six of his seamen run away from him did upon his application to the honble Coll. Geo. Roboth- am one of his MajtY honble Council of this Province obtain his speciall Warrt for the looking after & apprehending the sd men That this Depont was employed by his Honr in behalf of Capt Oldson the Mr for to looke after the sd men wth direc tions to follow them as far as Phyladeiphia if he could not find them before & accordingly had delivered to him by the sd Coll. Robotham the afforementioned warrt together wth Lettrs of Recommendations to Govr Markham & some other Magis trates of that Province for their aid & assistance. That he accordingly went to Phyladelphia & applied himself to Govr Markham for his honrs warrt but received for answer that he might have his warrt to apprehend the sd seamen but it would be to little purpose unless he could lay felony to their charge wch this Depont said he could not doe however he had a warrt but could not find them in the Town & this Depont upon his oath doth further say tht the first night he came to Phyladelphia he saw in the same house where he lodged four of the seamen belonging to Captain Daniell Commandr of his Majtyes hired Ship the Prince of Orange as he was told by the people of the house & other persons thereabouts & gave notice of them accordingly to Govr Markham who said he would secure them because they were run away from the King but whether he did or not this Depont knows not for understanding that the men he was employed to looke after were in the country he departed thence & applied himself to three of the Magistrates living in the country for their aid & assistance who made answer to this Depont that he might
