His Excellency produces to this Board a Petition of Mr John Brannock To the Honble Benedict Leonard Calvert Governor of the Province of Maryland
The Humble Petition of John Brannock of Dorchester County
Humbly Sheweth unto your Excellency That Whereas John Eccieston Susanna his Wife Henry Trippe of Dorchester County the Executrix and Executor of Henry Tripp of Dorchester County dec'd brought their Action against your Petitioner in Dorchester County Court for the sum of Three thousand seven hundred fifty three pounds of Tobacco upon a Bill and your Petitionr by John Tollett his Attorney appeared and tendered a Plea of Discount in Bar of the said Action with an Account annexed to the said Plea proved before Two of His Lordships Justices of Dorchester County according to Law Yet nevertheless Henry Ennals Chief Judge of Dorchester County Court afd with some of the Justices of the said County would not suffer or allow of your Petitioners Plea to be filed or received in the Defence of your Petitioner, and the said Henry did declare in Court that if your Petitioners Attorney would not deliver the said Account to the Court that He the said Henry Ennals would suspend him the said John Tollett of his Practice and thereupon Ordered that Judgment should be entered against your Petitioner that John Brannock came into Court & confess'd Judgment to the said Action whereas in Truth the said Entry was false for the said John Brannock did not come into Court and confess Judgment nor any other Person for him which Actings and Proceedings are against the good Rules of His Lordships Government and the Law in such Cases made and provided, and to the Great Injury of your Petitioner, where fore he most humbly prays that the said Henry Ennals may answer the said Complaint before your Excellency, and that the several Evidences may be sworn and returned their Oaths
