                  530 Proceedings of the Council of Maryland, 1730.

            

             Lib. M. Maryland ss.

                   To His Excellency Benedict Leonard Calvert Esqr Govr of

                  Maryland & the Honble Members of His Lordships Council

                  of the same Province

                   The Petition of Jacob Lockerman Junr Sheriff of Dorchester

                  County

            

                  Humbly Sheweth

                   Whereas your Petitioner as Sheriff of the County aid finds

                  himself as he Conceives prejudiced in the Manner the Justices

                  of Dorchester County have proceded in laying their last

                  County Levy being different, from all Other Levies before

                  laid in that County, And (as Your Petitioner is informed)

                  from the Manner of the Publick and other Counties laying

                  their Levies; The Prejudice Yor Petitioner Complains of, is,

                  That the Justices have Charged him more than levied on the

                  People, and have not allowed him his full Salary due to him

                  by Law, as also charging him with Amerciaments, fines, &

                  whats levied for squirrels, due to the County, before he Col

                  lects the same

               p. 32   Your Petitioner applyed to the Justices of Dorchester

                  County at the Time of laying their Levy, and informed them

                  of the Hardships above mentioned, but they did not think

                  proper to relieve him therein

                   And for that your Petitioner is informed that the proper

                  Place to apply for Redress against the hardships complained

                  of as afd is before Your Excellency and Honours

                   Wherefore Your Petitioner most humbly prays Your Excel

                  lency and Honours to give him Leave to be heard before Your

                  Excellency and Honours in Relation to the hardship he Con

                  ceives himself under in the Particulars above mentioned, And

                  that upon proving the several Allegations by him above

                  alleged, Your Excellency and Honours will be pleased to make

                  such Order in the Premises for your Petitioners Relief, As to

                  your Excellency and Honours shall seem just and reasonable,

                  And Your Petitr as in Duty bound will Ever pray &c.

                   The said Sheriff being called in and heard in Relation to

                  his Petition; It is the Opinion of this Board that he make Ap

                  plication to the Justices of Dorchester County for Redress at

                  the Time of their laying the next County Levy.

                   Philemon Lloyd Esqr produces to this Board a Remon

                  strance in the following Words.

            

                   To His Excellency the Governor and the Honourable Coun

                  cil of Maryland

                   The Remonstrance of Philemon Lloyd Esqr Deputy Secre
