   to John Young for Forty Pounds Sterl being his Years Salary Lib. M.

   for cleaning the Arms &c. Ending the 11th Day of January

   last to be paid out of the Mony arising from the Duty of 3d

   hhd for Arms.

  

  

  

     At a Council held in the Council Chamber on Thursday in

   the Afternoon, the                  of May 1730

  

               Present as in the Morning

  

     His Excellency Communicates to this Board a Letter with

   the following Superscription.

  

     For His Majesty's Especial Service To the Honble Benedict p. 27

   Leond Calvert Esqr Deputy Govr of His Majesty's Province

   of Maryland in America; Or to the Commander in Chief of

   that Province for the Time being

   Plantation Office                       Maryland

     Wherein were inclosed the following Letter and Queries

  

   Sr

  

     My Lords Commissioners for Trade and Plantations com

   mand me to send the enclosed Queries to you, relating to the

   Province of Maryland, and to desire your particular Answers

   thereto as soon as maybe: I am Sr

      Whitehall Your most Obedient humble Servant

   Decr 9th 1729            Alured Popple

  

  

       The Honble Benedict Leonard Calvert Esqr

  

     What is the Scituation of the Province under your Govern

   ment the Nature of the Country Soil and Climate, the Lati

   tudes and Longitudes of the most Considerable Places in

   it or the Neighbouring French or Spanish Settlements? Have

   those Latitudes and Longitudes been settled by good Obser

   vations, and from whence are the Longitudes computed?

     What are the Reputed Boundaries, and are any Parts there

   of disputed, what Parts, and by whom?

     What is the Constitution of the Government?

     What is the Trade of the Province, the Number of Shipping,

   their Tonnage, and the number of Seafaring Men, with the

   respective Increase or Diminution, within Ten Years past?
