    “known how much ‘tis wanting were Honesty us'd as tis            Lib. M.

    “pretended now a Sincere & hearty Attachment to our Selves

    “& posterity can't be better Demonstrated then by pusing

    "Vigerly while the Gapp is Open therefore as an Expedient

    “(my honest Country men) Let us meet at Queen Ann Town

    “on Munday the 28th of this Instant to Assert our Rights

    “Arm'd in a Suitable Manner to our good & honourable

    “Pretentions we Desire it may be Publish'd.

      20th October 1728

      And Desires the Advice of this Board what is Necessary

    to be done relateing thereto, who are of Opinion that it is

    highly reflecting on the Legislature of this Province and that

    Proclamations ought to Issue imediately requireing the Sev

    erall Officers both Civil & Military in Prince George & Ann

    Arundell Countys to have a faithfulI & watchfull Eye over

    the peace thereof and that his Exly by the same Proclamation

    Offer 50 l reward to any person that shall Discover the Author

    or Disperser of the said paper so as they be Convicted

    thereof by due Course of Law which Proclamation being

    prepared Read & Agreed to by this Board, is as follows Viz.

      “By his Excellency Benedict Leonard Calvert Governour

    “and Commander in Chief in and over the Province of

    “Maryland

                     A Proclamation                                   p. 2

      Whereas I have certain Information that many Seditious

    & Scandalous papers have Lately been Dispersed in Prince

    Georges County, Injuriously Reflecting on the Legislature

    of this Province, and tending to a riotous Disturbance of the

    Peace of his Majesties Subjects therein, by Inviteing Persons

    to meet at Queen Anns Town, on Munday next the Twenty

    Eighth Instant, in an Armed and hostile manner, then and

    there to Consult Rebellious and Illegall ways to Awe and

    force the present Generall Assembly to Comply with certain

    pretended Demands; all which is Contrary to the Safety and

    ffreedom of Legislation, the Honour of the Government, and

    wellfare of the good people of this Province, I have therefore

    thought fit (with the Advice of his Lordships Council of State)

    to Issue this my Proclamation, hereby requireing all Officers

    both Civill and Military within this Province, to have a faith

    full and watchfull Eye, over the peace thereof; and to Vse

    all Lawfull ways & Means to Discover & Suppress all Such

    riotous & unlawfull Meetings & Assembly's, and to make

    Early and Diligent Enquiry into the Arthors and Dispursers

    of Such Seditious & Scandalous papers, that they and all
