Read the Depositions of William Tattman and Elinor In- graham Complaining of Enchroachments made by the Pennsyl vanians on his Lordships Inhabitants on the Borders of this province Ordered that a Proclamation issue Commanding the several Sheriffs and other Officers Civil and military in those several Countys to be Aiding and Assisting to prevent such En chroachments for the future which proclamation issued and is as follows vizt
Maryland SSt By his Excellency Benedict Leond Calvert Governor and Commander in chief in and over the province of Maryland A Proclamation Whereas Complaint hath been made by several the good p. 195 People his Lordships Tenants of this province as well those Inhabiting the Northern parts thereof as others Bordering up on the Countys lying on Deleware Commonly Called the Lower Countys that many Abuses have been Committed and divers Enchroachments made and Continued to be made on several parts of this province by the People belonging to Pennsylvania and the said three Lower Counties to the mani fest Wrong and very great Injury of his Lordship the Lord proprietary and the said Good people his Tennants And foras much as the truth thereof hath been manifestly made Appear to the Govr and Council of this province I have by the advice of his Lordship Honble Council for preventing of the like Illegal and Injurious proceedings for the future thought fit to Publish this my Proclamation strictly charging and requiring all Sheriffs and all other Officers both Civil and Military with in this his Lordships Province of Maryland upon Notice of any Enchroachment made or attempted to be made on any the Lands or Tenements of any his Lordships Tenants or upon any Assaults or other Injurys done or Offered to be done to the persons of any of his said Lordships Tenants to Aid and Assist such his said Lordships Tenants to the utmost of their power and to use all lawful means to Apprehend and Seize all such Aggressors as they shall find illegally encroaching upon any his Lordships Lands or the Lands and Tenements of any his Lordships Tennants or Assaulting and Abusing any such Tenants of his said Lordship and them to bring or Cause to p. 196 be brought before one of his Lordships Justices of the peace for the County where such Aggressors shall be so taken there to be dealt with According to Law Given at the City of An napolis this tenth day of November in the thirteenth year of his Lordships the Lord Proprietarys Dominion &cAnnoq Dni 1727
