472 Proceedings of the Council of Maryland, 1727.
Lib. x. of your Province I have Caused a Hue and Cry to issue un der the Seal of our Colony for the Apprehension of these Robbers and have directed Thacker to attend your Excellency for such further Process as you shall think proper to issue for p. 170 the taking these Felons and Conveying them unto this Gov ernment in Order to their further Prosecution here I have also directed Thacker and his Witnesses to Appear with the Prisoners at their Examination before a Court to be held for that Purpose according to our Law I am To his Excellency Sir Charles Calvert Your Excellencys most Obedient & Governor of Maryland most humble Servant Robert Carter Virginia Robert Carter Esqr President of his Majestys Council and Commander in Chief of the Colony and Dominion of Vir ginia
To all Constables & other Officers & Ministers of our Lord the King to whom the Execution hereof shall belong sendeth Greeting
Whereas Richard Thacker late of the Province of Mary land planter hath this day made Oath before me that on the twenty eighth day of April last past at the House of George Yates in the County of King William in the Colony aforesaid he was Assaulted and Robbed of Eleven pieces of Gold (to wit) two Quadruples, Three Moidors, two French Guineas, Two Pistoles one English half Guinea and one half Pistole by Philip Hammond William Hammond and John Howard Inhabitants of the Province of Maryland aforesaid and that they fled for the same and are not yet apprehended These are therefore to Command you forthwith to make diligent search within your Sevl Precincts for the Persons aforesaid p. 171 and to make Hue and Cry after them from Parish to Parish and from County to County as well by Horsemen as by Footmen according to Law and if you shall find them or either of them that then you bring them before some one of his Majestys Justices of the Peace for the County where they shall be taken so to be dealt with according to Law And in case they shall have escaped into the Province of Maryland aforesaid or other the Neighboring Governments I do hereby desire and request the Governors and other Officers and Ministers of Iustice therein that they will be aiding and As sisting by their Authority to Apprehend the said Felons and to Convey them to some County in the Colony and Dominion of Virginia aforesd to the end that they may be brought before some Iustice of the Peace of such County to be dealt
