                   His Excellency delivers to this Board an answer from the

                 Govr and Council of Virginia to their Letter lately sent to

                 them which Answer is as follows

                                      Williamsburgh May 27th 1726

                 Gentlemen

                   It was with much Satisfaction that we received yesterday

                 the Honour of your Letter of the 21st Instant which brought

                 us the Agreable Account of the disposition of your Province

        p. 151   to Enter into Measures for Improving that Trade by which

                 both Governments subsists

                   We are very Sensible that the fall of the Value of Tobacco

                 in Great Brittain has been too much owing to the want of a

                 Good Understanding between the two Tobacco Plantations

                 and their mutual Endeavours to Amend the Quality and

                 advance the Value of our Staple Commodity and shall be

                 glad if the measures we have taken here for that purpose

                 prove agreable to the Circumstances and Inclinations of the

                 People of your Province

                   But as we have now under Consideration a Bill which we

                 Judge of Consequence to keep up the Price of Tobacco in

                 the European Markets and which hath not yet had its Pro

                 gress through the Lower House of Assembly (as we hope

                 it will) we must defer giving you a further Answer till the

                 Conclusion of this Sessions which is expected next week

                 and then we shall not fail to Transmit to you Copys of the
