Several Depositions of Samuel Brice of New Connaught Charles Alleyn of Talbots Mannor Edward Lang of New Connaught and Daniel Smith under Maryland Government were read at the Board Complaining of the Encroachments of the Pennsylvanians in particular that Isaac Taylor and Elisha Gatchel with William Brown John Churchman Richard Brown Roger Nerck and Isaac Taylors Son in Company did run out their Lands and threatned to take their plantations from them if they refus'd to come under the Pennsylvania Government, which to save them they were Obliged to do; The honble Philemon Lloyd at the same time informed the Board that the people afd in Consequence of their submis- sion to the Pennsylvanians had rejected his Lordships Gov- ernment and refused to pay the Sheriff And upon putting the Question where the said Taylor and Gatchell should be prosecuted for their Offence whether in Cecil County Court or in the provincial Court it is the opinion of the Board that they be prosecuted in the Provincial Court and that they be bound over to their Appearance therewith two suthcient sureties they in an hundred pounds p. 55 Sterling each and the Sureties in fifty pounds Sterling each and that the evidences be bound over likewise at the same time in ten pounds each Upon putting the question how the Sheriff should proceed with Relation to the execution of his Office it is the Opin ion of the Board that the Sheriff collect the Taxes of all persons who usually were deem'd Taxables and who for merly paid taxes to this Government in particular New Con- naught and Talbots mannor but that he be Cautious with respect to New Munster that being a Case as yet Undecided His Honour the Governor having acquainted the Board with the Scarcity of powder and want of Arms for the pub- lick use Ordered that Colo Samuel Young Treasurer of the West ern Shore send to Great Britain for fifty half Barrels of powder and three hundred Fire Arms such as his Honour shall think fit And also further Ordered that the said Colo Young and Benjamin Tasker Esqr agree with a Workman to make a new platform for the Guns and to drill them if practicable and stop up the old Touch Holes The honble Philemon Lloyd having acquainted the Board with the advantage which might Accrue to his Lordships Government if a Correspondence were setled and Cultivated between this Province and the Conestogoa Indians Ordered that an Order of Council be made out to impower Esqr Lloyd to cultivate such a Correspondence for the Benefit of his Lordships Government
