          Proceedings of the Council of Maryland, 1722. 395

    

     Foundation of a Trade with them for the time to come and       Lib. X.

     use them as good Friends and Brethren by making such a

     Chain of Friendship between us as shall be kept bright so

     long as the Sun and Moon shall endure

       You must be sure to make them understand how many

     months and days it is to the said middle of April

       3 That as soon as you perceive an Inclination in those

     Indians to Surrender up the Negro Slaves that are now

     among them unto the English that you propose to them that

     such of their Indians as will bring them down to Annapolis

     shall there receive for every such Slave two Stroud Match

     Coats & One Gun

       4 That as this Government sent to the said Pockaseta

     and Oneeacoopa a Stroud Match Coat and a pair o Silk

     Stockings unto each of them as a token of our desire of liv-

     ing as Friends and Brethren with them so let those Indians

     know that if they will send down those Negro people that

     have lived among them for the Reward of two Strouds and

     a Gun as afd we shall look upon the same as a token of their

     desire to become our Friends and to live as Brethren with us

    

    

    

       At a Council held in his Honour the Governors House on

     Sunday November the 4th 1722

                 Colo William Holland

                 Colo Samuel Young          and James Lloyd

                 Colo Thomas Addison        Esqr and Benj

          the    Colo Richard Tilghman      Tasker Esqr

         honble  Philemon Lloyd Esqr        Councillors elect

                 Colo M T Ward

                 James Bowles Esqr

                

    

       His Honour the Governor acquaints the Board that his          p. 54

     Lordship the Lord Proprietary had by his Letter appointed

     James Lloyd Esqr and Benjamin Tasker Esq members of his

     Lordships honble Council and that they are now attending in

     Order to their Qualification

       Whereupon the said Iames Lloyd and Benja Tasker Esqr

     take the several Oaths to the Government appointed by Law

     and likewise the Oath of a Councillor and severally subscribe

     the Oath of Abjuration and test and then take their places at

     the Board accordingly
