             City of Annapolis Feby 26th 1721

       The Honourable Charles Calvert Esqr Governor having

     been informed by Colo Addison (appears by the proceedings

     of the Council the 21st of this instant February) that Major

     John Bradford had written to him two Letters wherein he in

     form'd him of the murder of one of the chief men of the Sinaca

     Indians called Sawney by John Cartlidge in Company with

     his Brother Edmund Cartlidge two Conestoga Traders and

     the said John and Edmund Cartlidge living under the Pennsyl

     vania Government it is the opinion and desire of the Board

     that his Honour write a short Letter to Sir William Keith

     Governor of Pennsylvania to acquaint him with the particulars

     of that information that so proper measures may be taken to P. 36

     prevent the ill Consequences of that Action which Letter is a

     follows vizt

       Certain information being made to me and the Council that

     John and Edmund Cartlidge both Residents at Conestogoa

     have killed an Indian at Monocasy I thought it my duty for

     the preservation of the publick safety to acquaint you with it

     and earnestly desire you will use your endeavours that the

     Indians may be satisfied in order to prevent the ill Con.

     sequences of such a rash Action         I am
