                  362 Proceedings of the Council of Maryland, 1721.

            

             Lib, x.   upon Delaware To all to whom these presents shall Come

                 Greeting Know yee that Ghesaont the Bearer hereof with

                 divers other Indians of his Company are persons sent by the

                 Kings or chiefs of the five nations to renew Treaties of Friend

                 ship with this and others of his Majestys Governments on the

                 River Susquehannah and Bay of Chesopeak and having held

                 such a treaty with me are now proceeding to the Govrs of

                 Maryland and Virginia to hold the like Treaties with them

                 respectively more effectually to establish peace and Friend

                 ship between their people of the said five Nations and his

                 Majestys Subjects of the said Governments

                   I do therefore hereby Require all his Majestys Subjects of

                 this province and request and desire all others of the said

                 Neighbouring Governments that they kindly receive and

                 treat the said Indians and forward them in their said intended

                 Journey they behaving themselves peaceably and as becometh

                 Given under my hand and Seal at Conestagoe the 9th day of

                 Iuly in the 7th year of the Reign of our Sovereign Lord King

                 George King of Great Brittain &c Annoq Domini 1721

                   And then they Complain of some Indians in Virginia that

              p. have killed six of their men and that they design to cut them

                 Indians of unless they make them Satisfaction and hope the

                 English will not meddle therein they being in peace with the

                 English

                   The said Ghesaont says that they will go to that Town and

                 Cut it of for he says they will do it those Indians having

                 killed some of their Indians unless they give them as many

                 Indians as they have killed and would not have Us Con

                 cerned or Affronted with it they the said Said Sinequas being

                 in peace with us and they say that the said Indians that

                 Injured them lives within a days march from the Inhabitants

                 of Virginia and that they are going to the Governor of Vir

                 ginia to treat with him before they go upon it

                   He the said Ghesaont delivers four Skins to the Governor

                 with all his Heart and is glad to see him & give him these

                 Skins in token that he desires our Friendship

                   They present two Skins more to the Governor and desire

                 a pass from him to the Governor of Virginia they being going

                 there to treat with him about peace

                   The Governor acquaints them that he will give them an

                 Answer to what they propose in the Afternoon and will then

                 send for them and desires that they will keep themselves

                 Sober

                   The Governor appoints to meet again in Council in the

                 Afternoon.
