    Proceedings of the Council of Maryland, 1719. 353

   

      Whereon his Excellency is Pleased to Observe That the C. P.

    Reason of his Desiring such a Call (besides his sickness)

    was, from the many uneasinesses he Received from time to

    time from the Popish Faction And their Adherents here and

    Elsewhere.

      His Excellency is pleased further to Acquaint this Board,

    that he has his Majestys Royall Lycence for his Absence

    from the Government of this Province for the Space of Twelve

    Months, which he lays before them as follows.

      [This is Entered at Large in the Councill Proceedings]

      Whereupon his Excellency Declares himself, very much

    Honoured, in having the Leave thereby given for which he is

    Humbly & Heartily Thankfull to his Majesty.

      His Excellency is Pleased to lay before this Board, their

    Lordships Certificate of Lycence to him to be Absent from

    the Governmt of this Province for Twelve Months under their

    hands & Seales, as folls

      [This is Entered at Large in the Councill Proceedings)

      His Excellency further lays before this Board their Lord-

    ships Instructions to him, which he Received with the Lycence

    & Letters aforegoing Viz.

   

      Orders and Instructions to be Observed & Pursued by

    John Hart Esqr our Lieutent Governour &c of the Province

    of Maryland: And in his Absence by the first person in our

    Councill for the time being

      Given by us at London this 23d day of March Anno Dni

    1718.

   

      1: With these Instructions you will receive our Lycence

    allowing you the said John Hart to come into England for

    Twelve Months and appointing the Person first named of our

    Councill dureing Your Absence, or on your Death, to take

    upon him the Administration of the Government, His Majesty's

    Permission thereof having been first Obtained in Councill

    March 19th 1718, which with our Lycence and these our

    Instructions, You shall make known & Publish to the Mem

    bers of our Councill Solemnly Called together.

      2: You shall before you leave the Province which you are

    to do if Possible sometime within the Space of three Months

    after the Receipt hereof Appoint Edward Lloyd Esqr the

    second person named of our Councill Keeper of the Great

    Seale of the Province giving him a Comission for holding

    and Executeing the said Office with all the Emoluments there-

    unto belonging Dureing our Pleasure: And in Case of his

    Death or Absence out of the Province, or upon his Refusall
