314 Proceedings of the Council of Maryland, 1715.
Lib. W. B. His Excellency acquaints the Board that He had lately received a Letter from my Lord Guilford dated the 30TH of May 1715.
A Paragraph whereof He Communicated to the Council
Sr On Good Fryday Benedict Leonard Lord Baltemore died And his son Charles now Lord Baltemore having chosen me his Guardian I have on his Lordships behalfe Nominated and appointed You his Lieutenant and Cheif Governour wch his Majesty has been graciously pleased to approve and you will herewith receive a Commission and some short Instructions accordingly And then lay'd before the Board the Oath his Excellcy tooke as Governour of this Province on Wednesday the p. 50 twenty seaventh of October 1714 on Notification of His Majestys Accession to the Crowne as followeth Viz.
I John Hart Esqr do swear that I will be true and ffaithful to his Majesty King George his Heirs and Successors and his and their Rights and Royal Jurisdictions and all and every of them into and over this his Province of Maryland the Is lands and Territories thereto belonging I will at all times defend and maintaine to the utmost of my Power and will never accept any Place Office or Employment within the sd Province any way concerning or relating to the Government thereof from any Person or authority, but by from or under a lawful Authority derived or to be derived from tyme to tyme to his sd Majesty his Heirs and Successors I will faithfully serve his Majesty as his Governr or Commander in Cheif of the said Province and in all other Offices Committed or to be Committed to my Charge by his Majesty's Commission or Com missions to me and will willingly Yield up such Commission or Commissions againe And all Offices Powers and Authorities granted or to be granted by them or any of them into the Hands of his Majesty his Heirs and Successors or to such Person or Persons as He or they shall appoint whensoever He or they shall appoint me so to do and shall signifye the p. 51 same unto me And will not Presume to put in Execution or Attempt to Execute any Office Power or Authority granted unto me by any of the said Commissions after that His sd Majesty his Heirs or Successors shall repeale them or any of them respectively and that such Repeabes be Published within this Province I will do Equal Justice to the Poor and to the Rich within this Province to the best of my Skill Judge. ment and Power according to the Laws and Ordinances of the said Province and in default thereof according to my Conscience and best discretion and the Power granted or to
