312 Proceedings of the Council of Maryland, 1715.
Lib. W. B. and that if that place be not tymeby Succoured it must be given up. His Excy Also acquaints the Board that our Potomack In dians have been out but are come in again, & that it may be Supposed they have had some Corespondence with other Indi an s— Whereupon He had ordered and sent fourscore Arms with proportionable Aniunition to Prince Georges County, And desires the Advice of the Board whether It be not expedient a Supply of Arms &c should be sent to Baltemore & Cecil Countys. To Which the Board do answer they think it very Advisa ble such Arms &c should be sent to the said Countys. His Exncy acquaints the Board that He has wrote to Col Blakiston our Agent in England to purchase £500 l worth of p. 46 Arms & Ammunition according to the Resolve of this Board the last Session of Assembly. And His Exncy proposes to the Council that Whereas there is a provision made by Act of Assembly for raising a Quantity of Tobo not exceeding fifty thousand pounds in one yeare on any necessity during the Intervall of Assembly Whether in Case He should have any Account from Col. Spotswood concerning the further Distress of his Matys Subjects at South Carolina They do not agree that (in Reguard it is very difficult on any suddain Occasion to get a full Council together) Col Holland Col Young & Col Addison or any three of the Council with his may order the levying any Quantity of Tobo not exceed ing 80000 l to be disposd of by their Discretion. Which was agreed to by all the Members of the Council now present. Also Resolvd and Advised that in Case His and any three of the Council shall think fit to send any Arms or Ammunition to So Carolina for the Succour of his Matys Sub jects there, It be wholy left to his Exncys Discretion with the Advice of Such a Number of the Council And it being con sidered that there is not so Sufficient a Store of Powder P 47 in the publique Magazine as might be wisht at this tyme To the End that all the Powder and Ball now in the Province to be dispos'd of by any Merchts Traders may be secured for his Matys Service at this Juncture. Resolved and advised (in Case his Exncy shall send any Powder & Ball to South Carolina) that the Colonels & Sherriffs of the Several Countys make dilligent Inquiry what Quantity or Quantitys of Powder and Lead are in the hands of any Merchts or Traders, And that they imediately impress the Same for his Matys Service, to be lodged with and Secured by the respective Colonells of the Countys and payd for at the Publique Charge And in Case it be discovered that our Neighbour Indians have a Corre
