200 Proceedings of the Council of Maryland, 1705/6.
Lib. C. B. Maryland sst p. 42 Att a Councill held at the Councill Roome in the Towne
& Port of Annapolis Thursday the 21st of ffebry 1705/6 Present His Excellency the Governour The honrble Thomas Tench Esq Coll John Hamond Coll Edward Lloyd Lt Coll William Holland & Mr James Sanders.
His Excellency tells the Councill that they Cannot but be Sencible of the Reference formerly made of her Majestys Royall commands as to Towns and Ports with other Matters to be laid before the Generall Assembly at their next Sitting, And therefore Desires their Advice when it will be a proper time for the Assembly to Sitt his Excellency Observing to the Board that he should be very glad they might Sitt long enough & rise timely to have the Iournalls & other Proceed ing Transcribed to go with the men of Warr expected. The Boarde do say that the first Tuesday in Aprill will be a very Proper time. Ordered that Proclamation and Letters be writt to require them to meet. p. 43 His Excellency recomends to the Councill that they will in their Severall Countys endeavour to perswade a Complyance to her Majestys Reasonable Comands Which they say they will readily endeavour. His Excellency acquaints the Boarde that the Severall per sons who keep fferrys usually refuse to give dispatch to publiq Pacquetts & Messengers Unless the Persons bringing the Same have ready money to Answer their Demands there fore. Ordered that caution be given to them from this Board to give Dispatch to all Such pacquetts and Messengers for her Majestys Service without Exacting any Reward therefore on pain of being Displaced & others Putt in their Steads. Coll Biggers Comander in Cheife in Calvert County not having returned a List of his Officers Ordered that the Clerke of this Board write to him to hasten the Same that they may be approv'd and Comissionated. Mr Keeth and Mr Adams Petition and Letter to his Excel lency and Councill on Mr Micnishes Application being read, Ordered thereon that there be no meeting houses Built within Less then halfe a mile of any Established Church already Built; That they give an Account of all the meeting houses they have to the County Court who are to give his p. 44 Exncy an Account thereof, And that before they build any more they Acquaint his Excellency therewith & where Scituated.
