        Proceedings of the Council of Maryland, 1705/6. 201

   

      Mr Andrew Richmond Master Gunner and Store keeper Lib. C. B.

    of Annapolis his Petition and Account of Stores, referred

    to the Assembly.

      Mr Henry Pinckney Overseer of the Highways being

    called before the Boarde his Excellency is Pleased to Checque

    him for Neglect of his Duty and Perticularly the Roade at

    South River Mill He beggs Pardon and Assures his Ex

    cellency and the Boarde that he will be very Dilligent in

    his Duty for the future & will take Care to have the ways

    mended, Whereupon he is Dismist for this time.

      Mr Molls Letter with Mr Richard Cantwells Information

    about the Indians being read.

      Ordered that a Letter be wrote to Coll Ennalls to Inquire

    whether the Nanticoke Indians owe the others tribute and if

    they do to caution them to pay it for that the Government

    will not protect them in an unjust Action and that a Copy of

    Mr Molls Letter be sent him by Coll Lloyd.

            Present His Excellency the Governour.

      The honrble Thomas Tench Esq Thomas Brooke Esqr Robert

    Smith Esq Coll John Hamond Coll Edward Lloyd Lt Coll

    William Holland and James Sanders Esq.

      His Excellency Comunicates to the Boarde his Excellency

    the Governour of Virginia Letters of the Seventh Instant with

    some Minutes of her Majestys Councill of State there & a

    Proclamation, upon the late Suddain advise of a ffrench Squa

    dren of men of Warr in conjunction with Severall Privateers

    Designed to Infest this Coast Whereupon it was debated

    and consulted whether it may not be proper to Issue a

    Proclamation Prohibitting the Masters of Shipps to ffire any

    Gunns whereby to allarm the Country.

      Resolved that such Proclamation be forthwith issued. His

    Excellency is Pleased to aske the Advice of the Boarde where

    they thinke the Shipping in the Country may be best Secured

    in case the Enemy should make an Insult on this Province &

    desires them to Consider thereof and give their Advice upon

    the next Sitting of this Boarde which is God willing Speedily

    intended.
