    unto the Two Commissioners who are to Cause it to be pub- Lib. H. 1).

    lickly read & then to Declare that they accept of the said

    Comission.

      This being done they are to Choose a Notary publiq who is

    to write downe the Depositions of the Witnesses when they

    Come to be Examined.

      After the ship shall be taken & brought into any of the sd

    places You are to Cause three or four of the principall of the

    Company (whereof the Master his Mate & the pilot to be

    always 3) to be Examin'd upon the Interrogatorys annext to

    the Comission & the Examiner must take this Method.

      Every Witness must be Examin'd single & alone by him

    self and before lie is Examined he must be sworne after this

    Manner laying his hand on the Booke you shall at the time of

    your Examination speak the truth the whole truth & nothing

    but the truth without favour or Affection to either party So

    help you God then Kiss the Booke when this is done the

    Examiner in prsence of the Comrs or any one of them must

    read over distinctly the Interrogatorys annext to the Comis

    sion & then he must write the head of the Deposition after

    this Manner

   

         Here putt down the Day of the Month & year.

   

      A. B. Aged years or thereabouts born in & Mar or

    what place he has in the Shipp

     To the first Interrogatory he answereth & Deposeth that

        then you must sett down at length the Witnesses Ans

    wer to the severall Questions in the first Interrogatory for it

    is not sufficient to put down to any of the Interrogatorys P. 295

    This is true in the Generall for the Witness must answer

    particularly & distinctly to each Question And you are to

    breake off at the end of every Interrogatory and begin after

    the first.

      To the second Interrogatory &c. And so on to them all

    for the Witness must be examined distinctly to every one

    Where a Witness can Depose to part of an Interrogatory &

    not to all After you have taken downe what he Can say you

    must Conclude thus And otherwise he cannot further Depose

    to this Interrogatory

      Where a Witness is Examin'd upon an Interrogatory & he

    knows nothing of it you are to write down thus.

      To the    Interrogatory he answereth that he knows

    nothing of it nor can Depose thereto.

      All papers & Writings found on board the prize must be

    shewed to the Witness at the time of his Examination afd

    after the Witness is Examin'd his Deposition must be read
