             16 Proceedings of the Council of Maryland, 1698.

            

        Lib. X.  Whereas several Bills of Exco found in the Possession of

                 Mr John Perry late deceased were produced at the Board

                   The honble Thomas Tench Esqr takes the Oath for increase

                 of trade as he is the Iudge of the Admiralty according to the

                 directions of the Act of Parliament made in the 7th & 8th years

                 of his present Majestys reign intituled an act for preventing

                 frauds & regulating abuses in the Plantation trade

                   George Plater Esqr being Called before the Board is Com

                 missionated Naval Officer of Putuxent takes the Oaths

                 appointed by Act of Parliament to be taken instead of the

                 oaths of allegiance & supremacy the above mentioned oath

                 for increase of trade

                   Ordered that Samuel Watkins late naval Officer of Putux

                 ent deliver to the said George Plater Esqr all Books papers

                 Instructions & Specimens belonging to the naval office at

                 Putuxent

                   Major William Dent takes the oath of his Majstys Advocate

                 in the Court of Admiralty & the oath for increase of trade.

                                Thomas Tench Esqr

                                Collo Iohn Addison

                   the honble   Collo Charles Huchins

                                Collo John Courts

                                Thomas Brook Esqr

                                         

                   It being moved at the Board on Behalf of Captain Thomas

                 Lovett Master of the Briganteene Susannah of Spanish Town

                 which was this day before the honble Tho Tench Esqr Judge

                 of his Majestys Court of Admiralty within this Province Con-

                 demned upon breach of several Acts of trade & Navigation

                 that he might be admitted to purchase the Vessel together

                 with her Cargo according to the Appraismt to be made upon

                 oath

                   His Excellency is pleased to say that he is inclinable thereto

                 provided Captain Lovett will produce the Vessel & Cargo to

                 gether with the Negroes in her imported that when they are

                 appraised he may purchase them at the appraised Value the

                 Gentlemen of the Council say that it will be a great Favour to

                 him

                   His Excellency is pleased to say that he hopes Capt Lovett

                 will take better care for the future and that it will be for his
