   Proceedings of the Council of Maryland, 1703. 149

  

     Came the Marshall & upon Oath acquainted the Board           Lib. X.

   that upon his going to the Eagle Advice Boat when he was

   within a small distance of the Ship Capt Bostock asked their

   Business

     Whereupon he told him his Business was with the Com-

   mander in chief of that Vessel Captain Bostock answered I

   am he & then sent the Cockswain on the Ship Side to take

   what papers he had who took them & in his sight gave them

   to Captain Bostock & thereupon he requiring An Answer

   one of the men whom said Marshall sent to him to ask for

   an answer said he should have one by & By whereupon he

   tarried in his Boat about half an Hour by the Ship side not

   being suffered to come on Board & then Capt Bostock sent

   his Boy to tell him the Orders required no Answer

     The further Debate of this matter referred to a full Council

     It being Offered that several Mercht Ships to the Number

   of Five were near ready to Sail for England Ordered that p.

   the Naval Officers clear all such Ships as Can be got ready

   by the tenth of May next & take their Bond in £1000 Sterl

   that they will call at Kiquotan in Virginia & joyn themselves

   with a Convoy if any there or otherwise with any Fleet of

   Merchant Ships ready to Sail from that Colony to England

     The President asks if any of the Board have any thing

   further at present to offer for her Majestys Service who

   say not

  

  

  

     At a Council held at the Town & Port of Annapolis May

   the 4th 1703

                  The honble Tho Tench Esqr President

               Robert Smith Esqr     Lieut Cola Wm Holland

   the honble  Colo Jno Hammond             &

               Colo Edward Lloyd     James Sanders Esqr

  

     The whole Proceedings of the President & Council in

   Relation to her Majestys Advice Boat Eagle & Captain

   Nathaniel Bostock the Commander were read & well Ap

   proved of and the said Captain Bostock being Sayled with

   the Vessel out of this Province without any Orders from the

   Govt Ordered that the State of this matter & the whole

   proceedings had thereon be laid before the right Honble

   the Lords Comsrs of Trade & Foreign Plantations the right

   Honble the Secry of State & the honble the Commsrs of the

   Admiralty & that Majr William Dent Attorney Genl prepare

   a Letter for the members of this Board to sign
