Then read the Deposition of Mr William Price Concerning Lib. X. some reflections cast upon his Excellency the Govr & this Govt by Captain Iames Brains Commdr of the Ship Iames & Benjamin of London together with the declaration of Philip Hennard & Joseph Hopkins his Excellency the Govrs Letters & orders to Robt Smith Esqr & Captain Iohn Hawkins & the said Esqr Smiths answer whereupon ordered that warrant issue to the Sheriff of Ann-Arundel County to take the said Capt Brains into his custody & bring him before his Excel lency the Govr & this Board which said warrant was issued It being represented that Mr Geo Tubman Minister of Port Tobo Parish in Charles County has lately Notwithstanding his being Married in England & his wife Supposed to be there living married another woman in Charles County & much given himself to Sotting and Drinking His Excellencys says he is very sorry to hear it in Several p. 164 Respects jDut especially of his Function & will take Care to have him brought to Condign Punishment And therefore ordered that a warrant issue to the Sheriff of Charles County to take the said Mr Tubman into Secure Custody & bring him before his Excellency the Govr & this Board with all Convenient speed which said warrant was accordingly issued His Excellency is pleased to propose to the Gentln present that whereas he understands Mr Philip Clark of St Marys County does endeavour to make what Interest he is able with the members of the house of Delegates to procure his En largement whether it may not be Necessary in order to Obviate such his endeavours & prevent the houses running headlong into heats before they are throughly Sensible of his misdemeanors, that his Tryal at the last Prov' Court together with the Depositions & proceedings therein be laid before them upon their meeting Then read their Lordships Letter of the 21st of March 1697/8 which together with the inclosed Act of Assembly made in Jamaica for Supressing of Privateers Pyrates & Sea Robbers is advised to be laid before the house of Delegates & that it be recommended to them to Enact Such a Law here His Excellency is pleased to say that whereas George Plater Esqr his Majestys Atty General of this Province has made application to him to be dismissed from Acting as his Majestys Attorney Genl of this Province he does think fit to p. 165 appoint Major Willm Dent to be his Majestys Atty Genl & thereupon ordered that a Commission be prepared Constitu ting Major Wm Dent to be his Majestys Atty Genl within this province with Power therein Given him to examine Evidences
