104 Proceedings of the Council of Maryland, 1700.

Treat with the Susquehannah Shevanolls, and Delaware Indians So soon as possibly Could be to proceed on their Said Treaty whereupon Notice was Given by one of the persons Appointed to John. Hans to Acquaint the Severall Nations to witt the Said Susquehannahs Shavanools and Delawares That on some Certein time as Soon as possibly may be to meet us att the Said John Hanses then and there as well to Communicate what by this Governmt was given us in Charge as to receive what by their Kings and Great men they had to Communicate to us att which day and place to witt the 28th day of August 1700 we the Said persons Nominated and Appointed there arrived (together with one Christopher Mounts who are made Choise of to be one of the Interpreters) between five & Six a Clock in the Evening and being late we refreshed our Selves and Acquainted those Indians that were then present to witt the Shavanoole and Delaware King together with their great Men That to morrow Morning we would proceed on our Said Treaty wch they Seemed to be very willing So we gave them Some Drams and they shook us by the hands and we went to our Repose
Augt the 29th 1700 On the Morrow being 8 of the Clock we the persons Nominated Acquainted the Indians that we would proceed upon the said Treaty and accordingly we took our place where were present Ocahale King of the Delaware Indians and his great men with his Interpreter (named Capt Hagrup) and Ophesaw the King of the Shavanolls with Boshaccus his Interpreter together with his great Men—whereupon our In terpreters to witt John Hans and Christopher Mounts being Sworne truly to deliver what they should receive from or by P. 171 us should be Offered to the Indians According to their Respective Nations thereby proposing that the Managment of that Affair may be fairly Iustly and honestly Carried on and Acted, the Susquehannah King not being personally present but onely his great men we shewed our Selves much dissatisfyed by reason of his Absence Acquainting them that we did Expect him to be present as well as the other Kings but one of his great men named Cassawwetoway als Harry having the English tongue very fluent begg'd his Excuse acquainting us that 2 other Kings Kendawagahaw and Saw waydaggahay (Seneca Kings) were Come to give him a Visitt and that for them reasons he could not possibly attend but Ordered him together with the rest of his great Men that were then present to give their Attendance to hear what we
