Acts, and have soe well provided for our defence that I fancy
the Indians will not be forward to perpetrate their wicked de-
signe against us or if they be wee shall not be taken Tardy or
be killed in our bedds: if my intelligence be true the Indians
have been and still are prompted by the french Jesuits and other
missionarys to forsake the English for a French interest and
rather than the Jesuits should fail of compassing these ends
they have instigated their Indian Proselites to cut all our
Throats if they could, the five nations are said to be much
Corrupted and debauched by the Jesuites but I hope to prevent
them, effectually with those Indians and am now in the way of

doeing it if the five Nations should withdraw their obedience
from the King. I fear Virginia and yor Province would not
Subsist many months where you have noe townes to be a re-
treate and Security to yor People
Which being read and considered of in a full house it is
Resolved that the Publick of this Province ought not in any
wise to be burthened with the charge of running out the said
line. And as to the Parraghraph of the Earle of Bellemonts
Letter relateing to ye Indians this, house haveing noe prsent
apprehension of any danger from the Enemy but on all occa-
sions shall be allways ready to comply with what is necessary
And orderd that a message be drawne up and sent giving
his Excy thanks for communicateing the same to this house wch
followeth

By the house of Dellegates Aprill 29 1700

This house haveing read and perused as well the last mes-
sage by the honoble Colll Jowles and Colll Hutchins as alsoe
the order of his Majty relateing to running out a divisionall
Line between the Lord Baltemore and Wm Penn Esqr, and the
house haveing taken it in consideration, humbly conceive that
the Publick of this Province ought not to be at any parte of
the charge in running out such line
Wee returne yor Excy thanks for communicateing the Parra-
graph of the Earle of Bellemonts Lettre relateing to the In-
dians wch was alsoe read in this house and wee haveing noe
present apprehension of any Danger from the Enemy but up-
on all Occasions shalbe ready to comply with what shalbe
necessary
